There are many types of headaches and many kinds of treatments for them as well! Here at Finland Osteopathy Clinic we see thousands of cases yearly and among them are hundreds of people that come to us with supposedly incurable headaches. From tension to hormone related to migraines and everything in between. Here’s a list of common causes for that nagging ache.
TYPES OF HEADACHES
- Hormonal headaches not just for women
Each month, our bodies go through cycles, more visible with women, however men also experience certain monthly cycles with the fluctuation of hormones. Some imbalances can cause acute headaches.
- Head in the clouds
When pressure drops or rises, sometimes our bodies need time to adjust. With this regulation can sometimes come headaches at the onset of storms or weather systems passing. Our bodies are normalised to the general atmospheric pressure depending on our altitude as well, so be aware and allow your body to acclimate to your surroundings.
- Colds and flus
Many times per year we are exposed to bacteria and viruses that can alter our immune system, leaving us vulnerable to catch a cold or flu. if we are not careful, getting dehydrated and our inflammatory response to such things can leave us with a bowling ball feeling in our head. Sinus infection and mucus build up can cause sinusitis, making it feel like a lot of pressure inside our heads is just waiting to explode!
- Adventure carefully
Deep sea diving and water sports can leave our ears plugged for prolonged periods of time creating pressure and tension and can even lead to infection.
- Exercise caution
Improper preparation and recovery from exercise, repetitive tasks and bad posture can all strain our upper back and neck muscles leading to muscular related tension headaches.
- Desk jobs and goggles
Staring at a backlit screen, not wearing glasses to ease the strain and improper sitting posture can contribute to headaches. Make sure to have proper back support with ergonomically designed chairs and have your monitor adjusted to the proper height.
- Serious injury and illness
Concussions and head traumas, tumors and other more serious ailments can create never ending headaches or migraines. Pressure on the Vagus nerve can also cause extreme acute pain otherwise symptomless.
- In your sleep
Every day stress and traumas can make us grind our teeth in our sleep. Make sure to destress your mental and your body before falling asleep to avoid headaches and even TMJ (lock-Jaw).
